VA Houston Chooses DISCO

May 13 – Seattle, WA

Data Distributing announces that the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston will deploy multiple DISCO systems in its Release of Information (ROI) department

VA Houston processes between 2500-3000 medical record releases per month and needed a fast, secure and automated ROI solution to be able to process ROIs faster and more efficiently.  It purchased dual systems for redundancy. The site also needed to cut the cost of providing ROI copies. DISCO™ reduces costs and labor related to paper copies, postage, couriers, copiers, and protects patient information by encrypting each disc created. The DISCO™ database tracks every detail of the release of information CD created so that HIM managers have a HIPAA compliant audit trail.

Health Information staff at VA Houston also wanted the ability to create medical imaging CDs in its department, rather than making additional requests of the busy diagnostic imaging department. Many VA hospitals nationwide are consolidating all patient record copy fulfillment into the medical records department. DISCO™ also offers a medical imaging CD software module that can be added to its medical records solution enabling Release of Information staff to be able to deploy a single DISCO™ system with both automated medical record CD and medical imaging CD capabilities.

“Data Distributing is very pleased that VA Houston has chosen DISCO™ for its Release of Information fulfillment. We have many hospital customers nationwide using our solution to standardize how they do releases and protect PHI, while saving money and time. We feel very honored to have Veterans Hospitals using DISCO™,” says Nancy Fisher, President and CEO of Data Distributing.

DISCO is an intelligent, digital (ROI) chart copy solution that produces patient record copies on disc for medical records departments whether they are EMR-based, paper-based, or a hybrid of both. DISCO performs HL7 queries and retrieves patient information from the HIS or EMR, creating on-demand digital copies of either full charts or specific encounters, and burns the patient data to a Rimage Disc Publishing system. The unique software also protects the security of the data. Additionally, DISCO indelibly prints the appropriate patient data directly on the CD for easy identification and quick shipment.
